I started Sysinco in 2004 as the home for my independent technology and consulting work. I spend a lot of time thinking about technology, but I am ultimately interested in what technology enables people to do.
My work has ranged across product development, enterprise and operational software, technology implementation, process improvement and practical problem solving.
More recently, much of my attention has moved toward artificial intelligence, machine learning, reasoning and the question of what increasingly capable machines mean for the rest of us.
Use technology to do something genuinely useful for people and communities, and find a sustainable way to keep doing it.
Technology becomes useful when it helps someone understand something better, solve a real problem, make a better decision, improve a system, or become capable of doing something that mattered.
Our response to increasingly capable AI should focus on understanding rather than producing more information.
AI is making knowledge, analysis and generated work cheap. Our own understanding, judgment, curiosity and sense of responsibility matter more as a result. We also need to recognize when the machine is wrong, incomplete or disconnected from reality.
As machines take on more of the process, we need enough understanding to oversee, guide and challenge their work.

Darren Soo is a Canadian technologist, founder and independent technology consultant whose work spans product development, enterprise and operational technology, artificial intelligence, machine learning and reasoning systems.
He has spent more than two decades working with practical technology problems and is currently developing Curiosity Project, a learning framework and product focused on curiosity, disciplined inquiry and deeper human capability in the AI era. His separate work on PI explores evidence-governed reasoning over changing entities and conditions.
Across this work, he is interested in how technology can make people, organizations and communities more capable.
